Abstract

Helicopters are modern day flying marvels that uses large rotary blades to generate thrusts. This thrust is used to lift the aircraft in air and propels it in both forward and backward directions. Since all the major functions are achieved with the main rotor of the helicopter, so it is required to assess the factor of safety of the blade. Vibration is an inevitable phenomenon on the main rotor that it generates many anomalies. If those anomalies are not monitored timely, then it can cause a significant damage to the whole airframe structure. This paper suggest a method for the analyzing of such vibrations on the main helicopter rotor, by designing a composite material rotor blade and performing finite analysis simulations.  The modeling of the rotor blade is done by CAD software, by selecting a NACA symmetric airfoil and the analysis is carried out by NASTRAN.
