Abstract

The main objective of this study is to find out the effects of mixture containing Silica fume and glass fiber on the mechanical properties of concrete. It was observed that compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength increased at various combinations of concrete mix used. Five mixes of different combinations of silica fume and glass fiber were prepared: out of five one mix was control mix without blending and other four mix were 5% Silica fume with 0.5% Glass fiber, 5% Silica fume with 1% glass fiber, 10% silica fume with 0.5% glass fiber and 10% silica fume with 1% glass fiber. The optimum compressive strength was attained at 28 days for the combination which has silica fume and glass fiber at 10% and 0.5% respectively, maximum flexural strength is accomplished after 28 days containing 10% silica fume and 1% glass fiber and highest split tensile strength was achieved after 28 days by using 10% silica fume and 1% glass fiber.Based on observed result, it is concluded that mix of Silica fume and glass fiber improves the mechanical properties of concrete.
