Abstract

Surface finish plays a major role in engineering applications since it decides many attributes of customer satisfaction including performance and life.  Cutting forces are the main contributing factor of machining process, which are effectively controlled by wisely selecting the machining parameters including speed of spindle, feed and depth of cut. Selection of proper cutting tools and its nomenclature are also decides the cutting forces. In this paper, an experimental work was conducted to understand the effects of machining parameters in the turning process on aluminium alloy 7075. An experiment was designed using Taguchi’s DOE approach to get the combinations of parameters using L9 orthogonal array. Using the Grey Relation Analysis method (GRA), the optimal values were identified for better surface finish and reduced cutting force. Regression equation and residual plots were obtained using regression analysis and the results were confirmed by conducting a confirmation experiment.
