Abstract

Intercultural sensitivity is increasingly attracting the attention of scholars and practitioners. The urgent demands of the time, caused by active migrations - labor, educational, related to finding a better place of residence, caused by military, political and ethnic conflicts - force us to look for ways to build good neighborly relations with carriers of other cultural traditions. The social environment of the modern city is becoming increasingly cultural and ethnically diverse, which triggers various socio-psychological processes, both positive and negative. The positive can be attributed to the growing interest of the population to different ethnic cultures, which is manifested in various kinds of events - from cultural lessons in schools and ending with cultural festivals at the city, regional or international levels. This also includes the creation of centers for intercultural research and training, aimed at helping to improve the level of intercultural competence of certain social groups. However, the negative consequences of intercultural contacts are greater, and their consequences are more noticeable. Thus, nationalistic sentiments are growing, the number of conflicts and clashes on interethnic grounds is increasing, discriminatory tendencies towards people of a different ethnicity, for example, when hiring people or giving places in kindergartens, appear.
