Perceptions of Teaching Professionals on Factors Influencing Workplace Stress and Coping Techniques – A Pragmatic Learning from Autonomous Colleges in Hyderabad City

Abstract

In the present competitive world, an individual who works for an organization is experiencing familiar difficulties in their regular work timeline. The reason for this situation is due to immense work pressure, usually called as 'Stress' or in sometimes 'Occupational Stress' or 'job stress' or workplace stress'. Though there are different sources of stress in one's profession, the stress creating channels are common and will remain same for all. The purpose of the present study is to isolate the collective factors that cause stress at workplace and the perceptions of the teaching fraternity towards various coping strategies for reducing workplace stress. As a known fact education sector is a vast area to conduct a research, the study is limited to the teaching fraternity of autonomous institutions located in Hyderabad City with a large scope of conducting the present research. The sample size of the study is limited to 185 respondents from the selected UG & PG teaching fraternity using purposive and convenient sampling methods. The demographic factors like gender and designation are taken as key variables for measuring the significant differences between their respective groups towards various factors influencing stress among workplace. The statistical tools "t-test for two independent samples" and "ANOVA One-Way classification" are considered for testing the homogeneity of responses through SPSS. The research results portray that the selected teaching groups of two demographic variables having significant differences among their perceptions towards the factors influencing workplace stress and the coping strategies that they adopt to reduce their stress.
