Family Acceptance toward People with Post-Treatment Mental Disorders in Pangalengan Sub-District, Bandung Regency, West Java

Abstract

This study explores family acceptance toward people with mental disorders after treatment, in Pangalengan Sub-District, Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia, and specifically focuses on types of family acceptance such as giving attention, opportunities, and affection to people with mental disorders. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with case study design using primary and secondary data sources. Three families selected as informant using the purposive technique. Data collection used isin-depth interviews and observations. The validity data test conducted by using credibility, transferability, dependability and conformability. The result shows that family acceptance toward people with mental disorders in the aspect of giving attention, opportunity and affectionis given to two informants while the other one did not received it. The recommendation of this study is to upgrade family literacy about mental disorder treatment and rehabilitation through social extensions and mental health education and promotion.
