Husband Involvement in Accompanying Childbirth Process in the Primigravida: A Scoping Review

Abstract

Father involvement in delivery room is much needed because husband responsible to  health condition of wife who will give birth to the baby. The role of husband much brings a lot of good to childbirth process and make wife feel calm and also more ready to face the childbirth process. The aim of this research is to review the literature of husband involvement in accompanying childbirth in primigravida mother. This scoping review method using framework from Arskey and O’Malley which consist of 5 stages, which identify the scoping review question with framework PEOS: identify relevant article by determining inclusion and exclusion criteria, conducting article search through relevant database which are ProQuest, Wiley and Sciencedirect, finding gray literature trough search engine which is Google Scholar; article selection with PRISMA flowchart which is used to illustrate the plot of article search, conducting critical appraisal to assess article quality; conducting data charting; compiling, summarize and report the result. Based on 6 selected articles, there are 6 grade A articles where this article selection come from Singapore, Sweden, Israel, and United Kingdom, 5 articles using qualitative research design, and 1 using cross-sectional research design. Three themes appear as result of scoping review which are husband support,husband obstacle, and psychological impact. In conclusion, approach in improving husband participation in reproduction health is by equipping husband with information and make them join to every effort in improving reproduction health. One of the activity efforts that can be conducted by husband is accompanying wife during the delivery process and support the references if needed.
