Abstract

Bangalore has a population of over ten million people and hence it is a megacity and the third most populated city in India. The city has seen a massive growth in the industrial sector due to the heavy state government investment on it. Although the growth in industrial sector is a boon to the Economy of Karnataka but its effects are more serious in terms of Air- Pollution. This paper discusses the trend in air pollution from the year 2011-2015 and the effects of KSPCB’s (Karnataka State Pollution Control Board) rules and initiatives’ success on the air pollution levels. As the data collected is huge in number, the aid of PYTHON open source software designed for data analysis was used. Python was used to clean, sort and group data and to get the relevant graphs for which analysis could be done. The analysis aims at summarizing the actions and initiatives taken by the State government in controlling pollution and its success and failure is discussed. The results show that KSPCB’s initiatives taken to curb pollution was effective in controlling NOx and SO2 but the PM10 values showed a critical increase in levels.
