Population Growth: A Synthesis of Causes and Conequences on Ecosystem and Socio Economic Conditions of Kokrjhar District of Assam

Abstract

Population growth is the change in number of people living in a particular area between two given point of time. The population growth is taking significant phases in the Kokrajhar district since the 20th century. The district is located at the western most corner of the state of Assam. As Kokrajhar is the district headquarter of Kokrajhar districtand the capital of BTAD region. The district having majority people of a tribal community and with some other non tribal community.  The district has very complicated in regards to socio economic phenomena. The number of people is increasing in such a rapid way in the district and it is higher than the state level and national level. And population growth rate of the district is higher than other districts of the State of Assam. This paper is trying to highlight the population growth and its causes and consequences of the district of Kokrajhar. The objectives of the study aretried to understand the population growth rate of the district and tried to compare with the state level. The data is mainly collected from the secondary sources and descriptive and analytical method has been applied in the study to seek the problems. The collected data is formulated in the some statistical tools and absolute figure has been shown with the help of diagrams. The reasons behind the population growth in the district is the urbanization, migration, high fertility rate and low mortality rate. The high growth of populationis creating some consequences in the district.
