A Foot in the Door of Minority Languages Revival
Abstract
Everyone has the right to express themselves using their own mother tongue and they have the right to use their language at all levels of education. Therefore, preserving them is necessary. Since language is not a variable separable from culture and other forms of social behaviour, the cultural and economic context and the attitudes of speakers towards their languages are the main variables that must be studied and considered in the design and implementation of any policy for language maintenance. In the light of that, this essay will shed light on the minority languages and how they can be protected. In addition, the reasons for their maintenance and revival efforts will be highlighted to show policies and planning which can be suggested. The essay will also examine language policies and try to point out how they can be effective and their potential failure.
