Comparison of Egyptian Standards for Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Power Plants with IEC and IEEE Standards: A Case Study in Egypt
Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the Egyptian Standards (Std) and guidelines for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) power plants. Moreover, the paper introduces a review with relevant standards in Europe and the United States. To get a safe and reliable operation for a grid-connected PV system, the electrical characteristics of this grid and the electrical distribution network must meet standards and guidelines. For a successful connection of PV grid-connected power systems in Egypt, the requirements of the solar energy grid connection code (SEGCC) and photovoltaic low voltage (PV-LV) code should be considered. Furthermore, the paper embraces the necessary producers for measurements of a small-scale photovoltaic (SSPV) grid-connected system site according to the Egyptian PV-LV code and IEEE-1547 standard. Power quality indices are measured and analyzed for a PV plant; which is integrated to the Utility Grid (UG); at the Holy Family School in Helwan, Egypt as a real case study.
