Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is an ever expanding network of interconnected computing devices, physical devices and everyday objects which are connected to the internet. One of the essential applications of IoT is in healthcare, where it has the capability of transforming the structure of healthcare by bridging the gap in communication between the doctor and the patient and improving the way doctors provide their services. The main objective of this project to create a low cost framework for a real time monitoring IoT based personal healthcare system by using Wi-Fi transponders as data loggers. It improves upon the use of RFID technology in health care monitoring and enables continuous, real time monitoring of patients. Timestamped pulse rate was uploaded to cloud in real time. Programming for accessing the pulse rate in real time from both PC and smartphone via the cloud is successfully implemented. The issue of data loss posed by patchy Wi-Fi connections is also addressed. A data logger was developed by using queuing algorithm which stores heart beat data during disconnections and uploads after connecting to Wi-Fi.
