Implementation of E- Commerce Platform Based on Supply Chain Management for Fresh Fish in Remote Island

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest archipelago countries in the world, with more than seventeen thousand
five hundred and four islands that is rich in marine resources. Indonesia scores five tops of fishery and
aquaculture producers in the world. Indonesia fish production in the first quarter of 2017 reached
3.97 million tons or 3.1 percent increased on a year-on-year basis. However in recent years
profitability has significantly decreased and adversely affected the livelihood of some fishers especially
for the remote fishing island such as Lingga Island. The main objective of this research to develop ECommerce Platform based on supply chain management to increase the feasibility in adopting more
market segments and quality of fresh fish to combat the current ills experienced and to make new
business opportunity. In avoiding some fishers experience relative prosperity, others are suffering from
low revenue, post-harvest losses and bottleneck of their products on the market. It also indicated the
possibility for domestic fishers and processors to secure competitive advantage and maximize profits.
This research also prescribed applicable recommendation from successful example of value added
initiative can be implemented in remote island in Indonesia. The designed system can make the fish
supply chain is more effective and can increase the value of the fish.
