Abstract

This article studies the wind energy potential in the Fnideq province by means of 09-years (2010-2018) wind speed data at 10 m altitude of wind energy using two-parameter Weibull distribution in Morocco. The results provided the opportunity to implement and develop the urban wind energy sector in the Fnideq province. The mean monthly wind speed, wind direction and power density were calculated. During the period under consideration, the strong wind flows were southeast (28.4 %) and northwest (24.9 %). Compared to other technologies, the VESTAS V82-0.9 / 1.65 MW-70 m wind turbine offered the best capacity factor of 30 % and the best energy production more than 2745 MWh. After analyzing the generation of wind energy, the province of Fnideq must install wind turbines with a high blade height of more than 70 m in order to achieve an efficient harvest.
