The Role of Spiritual Capital in the Hospitality Industry

Abstract

Spiritual capital and its application have attracted a lot of attention lately following the concept that first existed, namely natural, economic, human, social capital and so on. Various studies conducted state that spiritual capital has a role in improving innovation and performance, leadership, poverty alleviation. However, it is still limited to conducting spiritual capital studies in the field of hospitality. This research is an exploratory study to explore the role of spiritual capital in the field of hospitality, especially related to the relationship between the host (host) with guests (traveler) in the field of tourism. This type of research is a qualitative phenomenology with the method of collecting interview data with practitioners of tourism activities both in the hospitality sector. The results showed that spiritual capital has an important role in providing services to guests, but in reality spiritual capital through its behavioral attitude element is not always displayed in service. The element of spiritual capacity is a basic characteristic of hospitality services that can make guests comfortable and satisfied during their stay, Upya is done to increase spiritual capital; through regular training and direction, conducting supervision and evaluation, providing work support, work environment, making SOPs and providing sanctions for violators and giving awards (salary, bonuses and other awards) to employees
