Abstract

The design and simulation of dual frequency microstrip antennas for Global Navigation Satellite System using symetrical slots have been described in this paper. The proposed antenna is designed using FR-4 Epoxy substrate with dielectric constant (Er) = 4.3, loss tangent = 0.0265 and substrate thickness (h) 1.6 mm to work at dual frequencies of 1575.4 MHz and 1227.6 MHz . Optimization of the proposed antenna is done by adding a symetrical slot inside the patch. From the measurement results obtained return losses of -19,572 dB and -19,356 dB at frequencies of 1575.4 MHz and 1227.6 MHz while for VSWR 1,234 and 1,245. The gain obtained from the proposed antenna is 5.75 dB and 4.77 dB at the respective work frequencies. The symmetrical slot method also succeeded obtained compact dimension of antenna with compact dimension of 40 mm x 48 mm.
