Abstract

The recent technological improvements in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) has made the
communication of IoT to be carried out through MANETs. This offers attractive features on the mobile
users, since the interaction may create successful transmission of data between the IoT source nodes
and the MANET sink nodes. However, such communication poses several security challenges due to
malicious attacks of the intruders in the MANET environment. It is very necessary to adopt a
behavioral modelling to secure the nodes by learning its characteristics before transmitting a packet.
In this paper, we use a behavioral modelling of providing trust based security in MANET-IoT
environment. The IoT senses and provides the data acquisition, where the data routing is carried out
by MANETs to the destination node or to the gateway. The trust based modelling enables each nodes
to be checked prior transmission of a packet. The trust based model includes direct, indirect and
mutual trust between the sensor nodes. A probabilistic distribution is carried out for combining these
trust values and that provides the resultant trust value on each sensor nodes prior transmission. The
study uses a fundamental communication protocol to transmit the packets via secured trust nodes.
The experimental results show that proposed trust based security model provides secured way of
packet transmission than other existing trust models.
