Values of Character Education in the Kartini’s Collection of Letters Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to describe the value of character education according to Lickona contained in a collection of letters from Kartini Habis Gelap Tebitlah Terang.

Methodology — This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods to analyze the value of character education in the biography of Kartini Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang. The research data in the form of words, sentences, and texts that contain the value of character education in the biography of Kartini Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang. The sample in this study was dialyzed using purposing sampling technique. The data collected was analyzed with this analysis technique. The validity of the data in this study uses source validity.

Findings — Findings in this study reveal the implied messages about the values ​​of character education contained in the biography of Kartini Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang. The various values ​​of character education are reflected in Kartini's attitude and character in dealing with various problems of daily life both as an individual, family life, and social life of the community.

Significance - Through the attitudes and characters of the main character Kartini, there are ten values ​​of character education that can be used as role models, namely the value of character education for justice, courage, self-control, love, positive attitude, hard work, integrity, gratitude, and humility. Various values ​​of character education can be used as a guideline for students in forming and building positive characters within themselves both within the school environment, home environment, and the general public environment.
