Decadal Variations In Temperature Variables Over India During The Period 1970–2018

Abstract

India is home to unprecedented sort of climatic regions, making generalizations strenuous. Rising
temperatures, chiefly associated with humidity can be deadly. The response of both natural and human
variables is the reason for the volatile nature of Earth's climate over seasons, decades and centuries.
Many studies have been conducted for the Indian subcontinent for monitoring and analysing
atmospheric temperatures on regional scale. Though most of the studies gave a clear signal of climate
change over various parts of the country, no research has been conducted to study the decadal changes
in temperature in recent few years especially in the pre-monsoon period. The main objective of this
study is to understand the decadal variations in temperature variables (maximum, minimum and diurnal
temperature range) during summer or pre-monsoon season, for the period 1970–2018 in India using a
programming language called MATLAB. It is a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment. The
temperature changes in the pre-monsoon period decides the fate of the coming monsoon season by
altering the land sea thermal contrast. Hence, this study is a necessity at this point of time when India
is facing the extreme climate shift.
