Abstract

Crosstalk is the major cause of signal integrity contributes to the delay in the chip and also to the
functional failure. Considering data dependant nature of crosstalk, a novel encoding scheme based on
Pascal’s triangle for crosstalk optimization is proposed in this paper. The main objective of the
encoder design is to convert Type-4 and Type-3 crosstalk patterns to Type-2, Type-1 and Type-0
patterns so that effective coupling is reduced. In the proposed SoS scheme, the entries of numerical
coefficients in Pascal’s triangle are exploited while approximating sum of natural numbers to n2. With
this, Type-4 crosstalk patterns are completely eliminated and nominal cases of Type-3 patterns are
generated. The performance analysis of this method is compared with the existing crosstalk avoidance
coding schemes.
