A Literature Summary of Malay Language Sustainability: From Industrial Revolution Perspective

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution affected the development of the language as new words had to be invented or existing ones modified to cope with the rapid changes in technology. With the rapid growth of IR, several research questions have arisen such as (i) Will transformation impact the world’s languages as a human communication medium? (ii) Is it threatening language development and technology?  (iii) Which language will motivate IR 4.0 for the world’s development? (iv) is it still germane for Malay language to be enhanced in this digital ecosystem? Based on the aforementioned research questions, this study aimed to examine the challenges and strategies and summarizes on the continuity of Malay language in facing the current situation. This study found that there are advantages and challenges in bringing the Malay Language as one of the parts of technology development.
