Assessment of Facilities Management Performance on Operation and Maintenance Aspects in Malaysian Technical Universities Network
Abstract
Institutional buildings are occupied by a variety of facilities and the facilities must be maintained properly. Most buildings often use facility management services provided by outside contractors to carry out the maintenance works. This paper tries to assess on the level of satisfaction over facility management in Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN). Emphasized are given on the facility management especially in educational institutions (IPTs) in terms of its role and benefits to the users or occupants. Then, elaborations are made on operations and maintenance, users’ satisfaction, theoretical framework, research design and how performance were measured. Research design will help in developing a framework to measure the performance of facilities management. The design was arranged into several stages based on the milestones set in the author’s thesis. Findings revealed that the condition and level of facility management play a role against the smoothness of the teaching and learning process in an institution. The recommendations are given to improve the existing management system so that the management can provide the best service.
