Do Public and Private Companies Differ in their Performance?- A Study of Manufacturing Entities

Abstract

An endeavor is made in the present study to know whether financial performance of public and Private companies differs with one another. The companies are related to manufacturing sector. Data associated to 6775 Public companies and 61,081Private companies operating in India is chosen for a period of three years from 2015-16 to 2017-18. The solvency, turnover and profitability position of two types of companies is analyzed and tested using t-test along with testing the differences in cost effectiveness if any. From the analysis it can be inferred that the there is a significant difference in the solvency, turnover and profitability position of Private companies and Public companies. With respect to cost effectiveness as well there is a significant difference between Private companies and Public companies operating in manufacturing sector.
