Abstract

Inconel 718is an alloy of Ni-Crthat is widely being used in aerospace and nuclear applications due to its resistance to corrosion, good wear resistance, and good weldability even at elevated temperatures. A-TIG welding is one of the most suited welding processes for joining Inconel 718. A-TIG welding is a novel variant of the TIG welding process wherein a thin layer of activating flux is coated over the welding region. Lack of penetration is the primary reason for adopting A-TIG welding as an alternative to conventional TIG welding. A-TIG welding process offers 2-3 times the depth offered by the TIG welding process in a single pass.A brief review of TIG and A-TIG welding of Inconel 718and the effect of process parameters areexplained in this paper.
