Abstract

Since 65 years before Hanseat Tempo wre manufactured by the same person who made vehicles like
Tempo Traveller, Matador etc., these vehicles are still very much operational which proves their
quality and durability. Hanseat Tempo is basically a 3-wheeler manufactured first between 1949-
1956.Being the very strong operated vehicle still there are pollution issues in these type of vehicles
and other laws related to that, which not only question their legality but their existence as well. They
are hardly found in Indian cities now because of issues mentioned. But they are still serving a
important mode of transportation in rural areas. Many of them can be found as a regular
transportationat the border of Punjab-Himachal Pradeh, particular in Patahnakot area. They are also
being used as autos on sharing basis to ferry people from one place to another. Although it is
basically a three-wheeler, but has a steering wheel instead of flat handle and a gear lever separately
instead of putting it on handle (4 forward and 1 reverse). The horse power of these type of vehicles is
about 15 HP, top speed is 50-55 kmph and powered by two stroke 400cc engine (petrol). This paper
discusses the issues of such a powerful mode of transportation. Also, feasibility of such type of vehicle
for converting into electric vehicle has also been discussed. Comparison between the existing and
proposed vehicle has also been discussed.
