Abstract

There is an increasing demand of mobile users to access data items with a rapid development of new
applications and services in vehicular environment. Moreover, researchers have introduced Road
Side Units (RSUs) along the road to facilitate in dissemination of data in vehicle to infrastructure
(V2I) communication. The main problems encountered in Vehicular Adhoc Networks (VANETs) are
frequent changes in connection, large topological area, location and high mobility. In VANETs
messages are basically classified in two categories i.e. safety messages and non-safety
messages.Forproper dissemination of safety messages in vehicular networks a scheduling of the
messages are required in which highest priority is assigned to very important messages. In this paper
an Improved Scheduling Algorithm for Scheduling of Messages in VANETsis proposed in which
messages are rescheduled according to the parameters like data size, amount of requested data,
vehicle speed. and deadline of message. To differentiate between safety and non-safety messages,
static factor is considered. The priorities of messages are determined on the basis of all these
parameters and reschedule the messages accordingly. The Simulation of the proposed algorithm
demonstrates the better results when it compares with recent and relevant algorithms.
