Abstract

Recently, the high-voltage dc transmission systems based on modular multilevel converters have developed rapidly due to their significant advantages in comparison with conventional high-voltage ac, line commutated converter HVDC and two-level voltage source converter HVDC systems. One of the main reasons for reviewing different topology is to avoid the several drawbacks of voltage source converters in HV applications. In this Modular multilevel converter survey, we have reviewed an efficient transformer less approach for modeling and control schemes. This paper reviews different types of circuits such as half bridge, full bridge, clamp double circuit, two level converter, three level converter and five level converter circuits for modular multilevel converters. Also, the survey discusses about the evaluation metrics used in existingworks
