Abstract

Information technology undoubtedly has a significant role in improving the quality of universities. Some of the contributions are managing compensation systems, increasing working discipline levels, and elevating employees’ performance. Following this issue, the present study aims to examine the effects of applying fingerprint attendance and compensation systems toward the working discipline and performance of lecturers and administrative staffs at The University of Buana Perjuangan (hereafter UBP) Karawang, Indonesia. This research is a quantitative inquiry with a total sample of 184 respondents consisting of 120 lecturers and 28 administrative staffs. Data analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics V22.0. The results indicated that the application of fingerprint attendance system had a positive and significant outcome to working discipline and performance. Compensation system also contributed to intensify discipline and performance of the employees. Moreover, if compared, the electronic attendance system has a greater influence on the discipline and performance of the lecturers and administrative staffs at UBP than the compensation system. This happened due to the compensation system was calculated based on the fingerprint attendance system, hence the more discipline and the higher the performance conducted, the bigger the compensation obtained. This finding suggests that the employees still require a system enacting as a ‘propeller’ to encourage them to follow the existing rules, in this case, an electronic attendance system equipped by a fingerprint.
