The Benefits of Competency for Practicing Talent Management in Higher Education
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to explore the use of competency as an instrument in the practice of talent management (TM )such as talent acquisition, talent development and talent retention has benefits in enhancing Higher Education Institutions (HEI's) performance. The research design uses a questionnaire with 140 non-academics staff as a sample to identify competency needs in carrying out the main tasks at the university such as service orientation in education, research, community service, collaboration, marketing, resource management and information communication technology (ICT). The empirical results provide thirteen competencies needed in carrying out jobs as non-academic staff. The paper contributes the use of competencies to talent management practices and can enhance HEI's performance. The paper limits do not analyze differences in the level of competency required for positions at the university.
