Analysis of Structure and Cost Efficiency of Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) Farming Based on Market Purposes

Abstract

The shallots have high economic value and commodities are used in various food processing. Therefore an analysis of the difference in onion business income based on market objectives namely the fried onion industry and consumption goals needs to be done. This is done with the aim of obtaining the structure and efficiency of onion business in terms of cost and market objectives. This research was conducted in Majalengka district which is one of the centers of onion production in Indonesia. Data collection through survey methods and direct interviews with onion farmer’s respondents with the help of a questionnaire. The number of respondents used in this study was 82 respondents consisting of 35 respondents for the industrial purpose of fried onions and 47 respondents for consumption purposes in Majalengka Regency. Analysis of the data used is descriptive, income analysis and R / C ratio analysis. The analysis shows the difference in income based on market objectives and agricultural business income over cash costs is greater than zero. While the results of R / C ratio analysis also show that farming based on market objectives is profitable to be cultivated because the R / C ratio of the total cost is greater than one.
