Analysis of MOOC SWOT Implementation in VCT Activities to Develop Teacher Professional Competence in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) regarding the implementation of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) in Virtual Coordinator Training (VCT) activities. The activity aims to develop the professional competence of teachers in Indonesia in utilizing MOOC facilities as one of the massive virtual media. This study uses qualitative research methods with a descriptive approach. Methods of data collection in the form of observation on the implementation of VCT activities, documentation, and interviews with participants related to VCT activities in developing professional competence of teachers in Indonesia. The information came from 2202 third batch VCT participants. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman’s theory. The results of the study are in the form of mapping swot analysis. Strengths are massive, open, free, practical, flexible, and act as an informal preference education. The Weaknesses are not yet facilitating the affective aspect of education and disability aspects. While Opportunities are participants develop professional capabilities and networking. The threats are the participant's indiscipline and the participant’s commitment to facing various network challenges.
