The Impact of Environmental Knowledge, Attitude, Perceived Behavioral Control, and Recycling Facilities on the Residents’ Behaviors at Polluted Rivers in Terengganu

Abstract

The river is a valuable source of water for humanity. The deteriorating quality of river
water has become a major current issue. The level of public awareness on the importance
of river conservation is still at a low level to the point of almost disappointing despite
millions of dollars have been invested for the cost of water treatment. Therefore, this
study aims to study the impact of knowledge, attitude, perceived behavioral control and
the recycling facilities on river conservation among the residents who reside near the
contaminated rivers. The research design chosen in this study is a quantitative research
using survey method by using a questionnaire form. This study is conducted at ten
polluted rivers in the state of Terengganu. A total of 373 respondents were involved in
this study. The results of this study show that knowledge and recycling facilities are the
determining factors in the behavior of river conservation among respondents. In
conclusion, ongoing efforts should be enhanced to educate and elevate awareness of the
community in order to appreciate eco-friendly practices in all aspects of life.
