Abstract

This paper presents the results of the study conducted for the potential for use of the
solid-phase reducing roasting to extract iron from the high-chromium ilmenite
concentrate of the Obukhov field. It was found that the recovery of the iron reguluses
available in small globules from the entire volume of the cinder by means of magnetic
separation does not seem possible. The results of experiments on reducing roasting show
that the iron reducing during the heating of the concentrate does not complete even at
1450 °C but the undesirable reducing of titanium to its lower oxides occurs. So, exposure
of the reagents at a higher temperature or at a longer duration is required to complete the
process of iron reduction.
