The Effect of Quality of Work Life and Career Development Opportunities Toward Work Satisfaction Through Affective Commitments

Abstract

Organizational Commitment especially affective commitment is a very important variable in
this research, through the provision of quality of work-life (QWL), career development
opportunities. The problem statement of this study is how the effect of QWL, career development
opportunities on employee affective commitment (EAC), the effect of quality of work-life, career
development opportunities on work satisfaction and the effect of employee affective commitment
on work satisfaction. The population is the employees of the Technical Implementation Unit of
the Ministry of Transportation, Directorate General of Sea Transportation, the Office of the
Batam Port and Port Authority, as many as 104 employees, and the entire population is sampled.
Data collection through documentation and interviews. The collected data were analyzed using
SEM, through AMOS software version 23, and SPSS version 23. Overall the outcomes of the
research concluded that (1) the QWL on EAC has an insignificant effect, (2) career development
opportunities on EAC has an insignificant effect, (3) the QWL on work satisfaction has a
significant effect, (4) career development opportunities have a significant effect on work
satisfaction, (5) the EAC to work satisfaction has an insignificant effect
