Digital Literacy and the Performance of E-Government: Evaluating the Moderating Role of Gender as a Demographic Factor
Abstract
The role of gender has a challenging effect on digital literacy, which in turn has a massive
effect on the performance of e-government. Digital divide through gender perspective has been
at the centre of discussion in adopting e-government. This study, therefore, explored the
demographic role of gender as a moderator in the relationship between digital literacy and
performance of e-government. This study applied the technology acceptance model as a
theoretical basis. A self-administered questionnaire of 369 respondents from 6 federal
universities in Nigeria was administered to generate data that were analysed using PLS-SEM
with the aid of SmartPLS 3.2.9 software. The result obtained showed that gender significantly
moderates the relationship between digital literacy and e-government performance. Also, this
study further affirms the significant positive relationship between digital literacy and egovernment performance. The relationship between e-government performance, perceived ease
of use, perceived usefulness, and willingness to use e-government were also significant. The
relevant implications were discussed
