The Experience of Mothers With Pregnancy Loss: A Scoping Review
Abstract
Most parents will experience sadness which is potential in psychological problem after pregnancy loss. The previous research reported that 4,2 million women lived in depression as the cause of the infant death. The aim of this scoping review was to review evidence related to the experience of mothers with pregnancy loss. This scoping review method used framework Arksey & O’Malley which included of 5 phases, which were identifying scoping review question with PEOS framework; identifying relevant article by determining inclusion and exclusion criteria, looking for article through relevant database, which were: PubMed, Wiley online library and Science Direct, searching for grey literature through search engine such as Google Scholar; article selection with PRISMA flowchart which was used to figure article searching flow, conducting critical appraisal to assess article quality; conducting data charting; arranging, summarizing and reporting results. According to five selected articles, it was obtained 1 article with grade A and 4 articles with grade B, 2 articles from low midle income countries and 3 articles from developed countries, these 5 articles are using qualitative method. Three themes appear as scoping review result which are psychosocial impact, obstacles and hopes. Psychosocial impact is mothers with pregnancy loss become introvert, avoiding social environment, often ignored and abused by the husbnd and families; obstacles are surrounding community stigma, exiled even divorced by the husband. Hopes are family and close friends support such as treatment and attention which are important in overcoming mother emotional stress, the health workers have to be more sensitive in facing mother with pregnancy loss and those mothers who hope for further pregnancy after pregnancy loss. The incident of mother with pregnancy loss occurs in advanced and developed countries. This incident gives the same impact to every mother with pregnancy loss which is psychic impact. Some matters that influence mother psychic with pregnancy loss are mother emotions, social environment and supports. The needs of further research related to pregnancy loss impact is not only on mothers but also their husband.
