Men's Participation in Family Planning

Abstract

The high population growth rate, it becomes a big problem facing the world, particularly developing countries, with the living standards of the poorer and disadvantaged in comparison with developed countries. Indonesia is one country with the fourth largest population in the world. To prepare for this situation, the government needs to anticipate the problems that may occur, including by the Family Planning (FP). United Nations Population Fund defines FP as a method and information that allows people to make a decision when to have children. Low male participation in FP because of the limitations of contraception for men and also due to the limited knowledge of men and women rights and reproductive health, especially FP program. The participation of men in FP programs. Steps being taken in this scoping comprising: identifying research questions, identify relevant studies, selection of studies, data charting, organize, summarize and report the results. Nine articles selected and have grade A and B. Two themes emerged as a result of a scoping review that male participation in FP programs, the factors that affect the participation of men in FP programs, Conclusion: The results of this scoping is the determining factor and obstacles, including the identification of negative beliefs about the man who contraceptive services can be used to develop effective male participation in FP. Interventions focused on men should be encouraged rather than programs that focus on women for FP should be considered a shared responsibility, the research gap is used as a reference in future research is still minimal and not specifically examined about strategies to improve FP participation husband.
