Father’s Experience with Stillbirth

Abstract

  • Becoming a father is a very awaited thing. But how does it feel when the baby passed away shortly after birth. The father’s role is often forgotten in this situation. A father is felt as the strongest person in this condition. Baby’s death shortly after birth will have significant impact towards parents, medical staff, and the community. This paper review the evidence related to the transition experience of becoming a father who experienced stillbirth occurance. This scoping review method was adapted from Arksey and O’Malley with 5 stages such as identifying the scoping review question, identifying relevant articles, selecting articles, data charting, result data presentation, discussion, and conclusion. Based on the selected article, all articles gained grade A, coming from advanced countries and used qualitative research method. Three themes appeared in this research such as fathers’ psychology condition, the support needed, and the coping strategy. Therefore Communication, sensitive care, and postmortem agreement for the medical staff who gave the care towards the parents especially the father after anomaly diagnosis which limit life or stillbirth for controlling father’s psychological condition.
