Study On Behaviour Of Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen
Abstract
Nowadays, only a fraction of wastes generated from used tyres is being used for land-filling. The recycled rubber tyres are getting reused in tyre manufacturing, tyre-derived fuel, engineering products and moulded rubber products with rubber as raw material and asphalt applications. The recognition for the benefits of using asphalt application with rubber as an admixture has been vastly experienced and therefore the utilization of asphalt with tyre rubber as an admixture is probably going to boom at a rapid rate. In this paper, we will review the utilization of used tyre rubber as an admixture material in bitumen needed for construction. The used tyre rubber is mostly utilized as an appropriately sized aggregate called as rubber aggregate (Waste Crumb Rubber) used in different bitumen mixes. The crumb rubber is mixed with bitumen in some percentages (0%, 8%, 12% and 16%) and different tests are conducted for determining the strength of normal and rubber added pavement. It helps to attenuate the pollution because of the waste rubber and therefore minimizing the utilization of conventional aggregate. Reusing of tyre rubber in constructive practices other than landfilling reduces its effect on the natural environment, which will be in high demand soon. The surface of the pavement will have practical advantages such as skid resistance, crack resistance, flexible pavement and increased compression resistance.
