Perception and Attitude of the Host Community on Socio-Economic Development Through Tourism- A Case Study on Udaipur Rajasthan

Abstract

Tourism has capacity for generating positive socio-economic outcomes depending on how tourism and its related activities are managed and developed. As every coin has two sides, thus tourism can also generate negative output. The present research identified the factors affecting perception and attitude of the host community towards socio-economic development through tourism. Exploratory factor analysis was used to extract factors and later perceptions of local communities “directly involved” and “not involved” in tourism was compared applying ‘t’test 250 samples were collected out of which 17 questionnaires were eliminated due to incomplete information. Finally, 233 samples were considered by using snowball sampling. Five point Likert scale questionnaire was drafted with the help of an in-depth review of the subject. One open ended question was added to get suggestions. Significant positive impact was depicted about economic, cultural infrastructure development, quality of life at the same time and a few significant negative impacts were also denoted like cost of living, monetary loss, health hazards commercialization and social evils.
