A Novel Converter with Minimum Number of Switching Components for Switched Reluctance Motor Drive
Abstract
The performance of switched reluctance motor relies on the operation of the converter used for it. In this paper, a new converter with less number of switches is proposed. The switch count is less as compared with asymmetrical converter (conventional). The advantages of using novel converter is, it reduces the losses incurred due to switching and minimizes the gate driver circuits required. Aa analysis is made in terms of switch count, firing circuits, losses and heat sinks by comparing the existing asymmetrical converter with proposed converter. The performance of proposed converter is described in various modes. The converter circuits with switched reluctance motor is simulated using Matlab/simulink software and results (torque, speed and stator currents) are presented.
