Abstract

The Welfare State is enshrined in the Indian Constitution with a view to ensure social justice
to the most deprived society, especially the Scheduled tribes. Tribal organization has gained impetus
since the fifth five year plan and to guarantee a matched and integrated advance for the amelioration
of the tribal people, area development approach known as Tribal Sub-plan area approach in
Tamilnadu has been adopted. The present article entitled ‘Impact of Tribal Welfare Schemes on the
Livelihood of Scheduled Tribes in Kolli Hills Namakkal District- Tamilnadu’ is a case study of Kolli
Hills in Namakkal District. It is a pioneer study in the field and the study is based on empirical work.
Extensive conclusions have been tired and suggestions specified which if acted upon, may go a long
way in improving the administration, and management of tribal development. This article is likely to
interest policy makers, sociologist and social anthropologist, and in development planning for the
welfare of the schedule tribes
