NEED OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT INTERVENTION AMONG POLYTECHNIC MERSING STUDENTS TOWARD BETTER EMPLOYABILITY

Abstract

Malaysian Polytechnic is a TVET institution that geared towards producing high skills work force
to cater multiple disciplines of industry needs. Malaysia as be focusing to be a highly developed
country by 2020 and had put efforts in establishing more TVET oriented institution. As more TVET
oriented institution established, number of graduates increased every year, which prompt to new
challenges in securing a career. Competitive job market and rapid implementation of new
technologies in various sectors poses new challenges and indirectly affect graduates’ ability in
securing a job. This is not a unique situation for Polytechnic Mersing only but a common issue to all
TET based institution, which prompt the importance of a facilitating career development intervention.
A career development intervention refers to process of empowering and preparing students to cope
effectively during their career-seeking task. This study intent to summarize the need of such
intervention towards preparedness of fresh graduates towards employment.
