Survey on Recent Trends in Pipeline Monitoring to Detect and Localize Leaks using Sensors

Abstract

Pipeline System is an essential lifeline for almost every activity of modern life. It is one of the most commonly used and economical method of fluid transportation all over the world. Due to various reasons like natural disasters, corrosion, cracks and deliberate theft attempts, leakages can occur in pipelines. These leakages cause serious risks to personnel in and around the pipeline, damage to the environment and financial losses. Due to this Leak Detection Systems have become an integral part of pipeline infrastructure. This paper surveys different approaches to detect and localize leaks, especially the new trends based on advancement in wireless technology.
