Comparison of Seismic analysis of Buildings resting on sloping / uneven ground using STAAD Pro and E-TABS
Framed structure constructed on a hilly slope shows different structural behavior than that on plain ground. Since these buildings are unsymmetrical in nature, hence induce large amount of shear forces and torsional moments and show unequal distribution due to varying column lengths. Seismic analysis performed on RC buildings with STEP BACK & SET BACK is presented in this paper. In some parts of world, hilly area is more prone to seismic activity. In this study, the set back buildings are considered for two Zones i.e., Zone IV (High risk zone) and V (Very high risk zone). The study of storey displacements and storey drift shows that these values are within the permissible limits as per I.S. 1893-2016 code of practice for earthquake resisting analysis of structures. The main objective of this paper is to compare the various design parameters of different structures, which are subjected to seismic loads by using two different software’s namely STAAD PRO & ETABS. Three dimensional space frame analysis has been carried out for three different configurations, each building ranging from G+8 Storey resting on slope / uneven land and plain ground, under the action of seismic loads. Dynamic response of these buildings is found in terms of base shear and fundamental time period and top floor displacements. Design parameters include various forces, moments, stresses, displacements and rotations and are found using the two proposed software. Finally the suitability, safety and accuracy of STAAD PRO & ETABS Software is evaluated.
