The Correlation Between Mother’s Knowledge About Lactation Management And The Behavior Of Breastfeeding At Donggala General Hospital

Abstract

Breastfeeding skill is not something that comes naturally, but those skills needed to be taught to Nurse and Midwife students. The lactation Management is an effort made by the mother to support the success of breastfeeding, it can be conducted during pregnancy after childbirth and the baby's breastfeeding period. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between postpartum maternal knowledge about lactation management and maternal behavior in breastfeeding at the Donggala Hospital. The type of this research was Analytical research using a cross sectional survey research design. The population in this study were all postpartum maternal at the Donggala Hospital which amounted to 387 people in which it was based on the number of visits in 2018. The sample size in this study was part of the postpartum maternal population of 57 samples. The results of the study were analyzed using Univariate and Bivariate Analysis. The result showed that from the 57 respondents and the most of the postpartum maternal who had good knowledge about lactation management was 77.2% and the majority of postpartum maternal who had good behavior in breastfeeding was 71.9%. Fisher's Exact test result was obtained p = 0,000 (≤ 0.05), It proved that statistically there was a relationship between postpartum maternal knowledge about lactation management with maternal behavior in breastfeeding. Conclusion: there was a relationship between postpartum maternal knowledge about lactation management with maternal behavior in breastfeeding. Suggestions mother post partum, it is recommended to maintain and increase knowledge about lactation management so that breastfeeding behavior will be better.
