Abstract

Power quality maintenance is most important thing for both electric appliances and consumers.
Normally problems faced in distribution system is voltage fluctuation, reactive power compensation has
most severity. The efficient tool to improve the power quality is DSTATCOM and it is having capability to
maintain constant voltage and currents in distribution and eliminates harmonics. The focus of this work
is, minimizing the reactive power harmonics and improve the quality of system by connecting Adaptive
sliding surface induced Second Order Sliding Mode Controller (SoSMC) to D-STATCOM devices, so that
the output fluctuations in powers are gradually minimized. The effectiveness of proposed adaptive sliding
surface induced SoSMC is compared with other conventional methods by using MATLAB/Simulink.
