Linear Regression Analysis on Black Cotton Soil treated with Silica Fume

Abstract

Soil strengthening is the processes by adding different admixtures in it.Strengthening of soil is generally achieved by mixing various admixtures like silica fume, cement, lime, silica, fly ash, GGBS etc. to the soft soils. In this paper the experimental investigation on black cotton soil was carried out in laboratory by adding various proportions(0,4,6,8 and 10%)of silica fume to the dark cotton soil  to determine the different index and engineering  properties. California bearing ratio values are increased with increase of silica fumepercentage.It is quite difficult and time taking process to get the soil properties by laboratory tests, to encounter such issue,predictions were made using simple linear regression analysis by MAT Lab and EXCEL software. In regression analysis, soil properties were taken as dependent variables and percentage of silica fume was taken as independent variables. The results obtained from both the methods are compared to know their similarities and differences.
