Abstract

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) plays a key role to enhance the performance of Power Electronic converters. Implementation of level shifted pulse width modulation for multi-level inverter in standard DSP or microcontroller is complex, since standard digital controller has limited PWM modules as well as only one triangular carrier wave. In order to validate the new multi-level inverter topologies and multi-level inverter with higher levels nearest level control based PWM technique is very promising. This paper discuss about generation of PWM signals using nearest level control technique on low cost Arduino microcontroller. The hardware results are presented for the basic cascaded Half-bridge topology. The proposed modulation technique is generic and can be easily extended to any multi-level inverter topology just by changing the switching logic. Also with the help of proposed logic the nearest level control can be implemented on any standard digital controllers
